The Estonian government has agreed on measures to support citizens due to the rise in electricity prices. According to the decision of the authorities, all Estonians from October 2021 to March 2022 will be compensated 50% of the payment for all network services. For this, more than € 88 million will be allocated from the country’s budget.

The head of the Ministry of Economy and Infrastructure Taavi Aas said that already this month, citizens will receive bills from providers, cut by half. As the minister specified, experts expect that the price situation will stabilize in the spring. Mr. Aas also called for the development of energy production from renewable sources.

“The rise in the price of electricity inevitably affects all of us, both households and businesses. So that the sharply increased bills do not turn out to be an unexpectedly large burden for the wallet, the state will support all electricity consumers to mitigate the situation by partially paying the costs of network services, ”the minister announced (quoted by Interfax).

Due to the sharp rise in gas prices in the summer, European countries faced an energy crisis. The European Union is considering measures to support consumers and companies. The Czech authorities have decided to reduce the VAT on electricity and gas to zero. France will freeze gas prices until the end of 2022, and will also pay € 100 compensation to citizens with low wages.
