Etecsa, the state company that exercises the telecommunications monopoly in Cuba, seeks support in India to deploy 5G technology on the island and thereby improve Internet access via mobile data, according to Prensa Latina reported following the participation of representatives of the Ministries of Communications of both countries at an official meeting in New Delhi.

Grisel Reyes, Cuba’s Deputy Minister of Communications, and Shri K. Rajaraman, Chairman of the Digital Communications Commission and Secretary of the Department of Telecommunications of India, were “exploring opportunities for cooperation in training and training in infrastructure implementation.”

One of the wishes expressed by Cuban officials was the possibility of sharing open source platforms to implement government services, training projects and education in emerging technologies, as well as the creation of a high-performance computing center in Havana.

The Cuban delegation took advantage of their stay in the Asian nation to participate in the Indiasoft 2023 international exhibition and conference on information technology and communications, cataloged as the largest technological event in India. In this context, they held a meeting with the board of directors of the National Association of Software and Services Companies of India.

Indiasoft is an annual information and communications technology (ICT) event that aims to promote innovation and growth in the ICT industry, while providing networking, collaboration and business opportunities among the participants.

India has experienced rapid growth in the telecommunication sector and has developed a large number of programmers and technological advances due to a combination of demographic, educational, political, economic and cultural factors.

What would the progress with the deployment of 5G technology be like compared to 4G?

The main difference between 4G and 5G technologies lies in speed, capacity, latency, and energy efficiency. While 4G (4th generation) offered a significant improvement in the speed and capacity of mobile networks compared to its 3G predecessor, 5G (5th generation) takes these improvements even further.

In terms of speed, 5G is about 10 times faster than 4G, allowing download speeds of up to 10 Gbps. This translates into increased ability to stream high-quality content like 4K video and virtual reality apps.

Latency, or the time it takes for a signal to be sent and received between devices, is also considerably lower in 5G, enabling near real-time communication and greater efficiency in critical applications such as autonomous vehicles and industrial control systems.

In addition, 5G technology is more energy efficient and can support a larger number of simultaneously connected devices, which is crucial for the development of the Internet of Things (IoT).
