The Cuban Telecommunications Company (ETECSA) announced that it will change the numbering of some mobile phones on the island, to which the pair 63 will be added.
According to the explanation offered to Cuba News 360 by customer service specialists, this does not mean that all the numbers will change, since the numbers that currently exist (those that begin with 5) will continue to be the same.
The new numbering, which will begin with 63, will be for customers who purchase a new cell phone line, regardless of whether they are prepaid or postpaid.
Meanwhile, on the ETECSA website, it is explained that there are now new mobile phone numbers that begin with 63, but that +53 refers to the country code and that this will not change.
63 is the new number and counting this, without the international code, cell phone numbers have eight digits. With the international code as part of the number, the format is +53 63XX XXXX.

To clarify the doubt, the ETECSA specialist explained to this medium that what changes is the 5 as the prefix of the number but that there is no other variation in terms of the cost of the call nor is the number of digits on the phones increased, since The current ones also have eight without counting the +53.
In June of this year ETECSA also changed the landline telephone numbers of the Artemisa province, replacing the first two digits with 49.
In Cuba there are currently about eight million active cell lines, making mobile telephony the most widespread service and the most common form of communication in the country, although it arrived much later than landline telephony.
ETECSA did not offer details of the reason for the decision to change the digits, but it is presumed to be related to the number of current users. However, in the social media posts where the company announced the change, many of the comments refer to the need for other urgent improvements, such as the mobile data connection.
