OB Boris Palmer in Hungary

Written by Jan Mainka

The non-party mayor of the university town of Tübingen, Boris Palmer, was in Hungary until Thursday on a three-day visit.

His visit program included meetings with Hungarian party, local and specialist politicians. On Tuesday he was a guest speaker at a very well-attended lecture event at the German-Hungarian Institute of the Mathias Corvinus Collegium (MCC). In his lecture he tried to achieve balance and spoke out in favor of revitalizing the German-Hungarian dialogue.

He questioned various Hungarian and German positions and repeatedly criticized the application of different standards. Alluding to the different assessment of the Spanish and Hungarian border fences, he stated, for example: B. in the room whether the former might be made of “ethically better metal”. “In view of the many challenges, the EU cannot afford to exclude Hungary,” he warned. Especially since our continent is on the “geopolitical defensive” in more and more areas.

This Thursday afternoon he is paying a visit to the Hungarian community of Iklad. The town, located northeast of Budapest, is a partner community of the Unterjesingen district of Tübingen.

During his visit he also gave an interview to the Budapester Zeitung, which will appear in the upcoming BZ Magazine.
