A lifeless body was discovered on Saturday at the end of the morning below the cliff of Étretat (Seine-Maritime), according to the Departmental Fire and Rescue Service (SDIS) of the department.
It was a civil security helicopter that spotted the body between the Antifer lighthouse and the Étretat golf course around 11:40 a.m., according to the news site.
According to the first findings of the authorities, the body found is that of a young man in his early twenties. The circumstances of the death are currently unknown, and an investigation has been opened.
Suicides and accidental deaths during walks on top of these Norman cliffs are relatively common. Faced with the increase in the number of these accidents, caused in part by overtourism, the city of Étretat has implemented several measures to strengthen safety.
