EU Ambassador to Russia Ederer commented on the words of Minister Lavrov about the Kama Sutra and impotence

On Monday, Moscow hosted a briefing by French Ambassador to Russia Pierre Levy and EU Ambassador to Russia Markus Ederer on the subject of France’s EU presidency. During the event, Markus Ederer answered Kommersant’s question about how the EU treats the assessments of relations between Russia and the European Union, voiced by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

Recall that at the end of 2021, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation said that the principles on which the EU policy towards Moscow is based resembles a “political Kama Sutra”. In January, he accused the EU of inability to negotiate, describing it as “impotence.”

“In both my personal and professional life, I have not dealt with any of these radical phenomena. Probably, someone more experienced or someone who has a richer imagination understands this better,” Markus Ederer said.

According to Markus Ederer, the EU policy towards Russia continues to be based on the five principles approved under the former head of the EU foreign service, Federica Mogherini. He recalled that these principles also speak of the importance of continuing dialogue and cooperation with Russia. “Unfortunately, we get the impression that Russia is not very interested in cooperation with the EU,” he said.
