EU balance of payments registers a surplus of €10.5 billion

In the fourth quarter of 2022, the balance of payments of the European Union (EU) registered a surplus of 10.5 billion euros, which represents 0.3% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), according to data from Eurostat, the institute for EU statistics.

The EU’s balance of payments grew in the last quarter of the year, compared to the third quarter, where it registered a deficit of 80.4 billion euros.

In the last quarter of the year compared to the third quarter of 2022, the balance of goods reduced its deficit to -17.5 billion euros and the surplus on the services account increased to 64.2 billion euros. The primary income balance increased its deficit to -11.3 billion euros, as did the secondary income account deficit, which now stands at -25 billion euros.

During the same period, the capital account deficit narrowed to -1 billion euros.

In Portugal, the current balance of the balance in the last quarter of 2022 was 0.1 billion euros, in the balance of trade and services, the balance in the fourth quarter of 2022 was 4.9 billion euros, these values ​​do not were seasonally adjusted.
