by times news cr

The European Union Mission expressed its concern about the deteriorating situation in Libya, amid increasing political division and the absence of unified institutions.

The mission urged all parties to engage constructively and in good faith in the pursuit of a negotiated solution, while affirming its readiness to actively support this process, including restoring Libya’s path towards forming a unified government and holding national elections.

The mission also called on all Libyan leaders to put national interests first and refrain from the use or threat of use of force.

Regarding the economic situation, the European mission called for lifting the force majeure on all oil fields.

The mission said in its statement that the intimidation of members of the State Council and employees of the Central Bank and the closure of fields exacerbate the already fragile situation.

She also pointed out that the continuation of unilateral measures and the personal management of state institutions and resources threatens the financial and economic stability of Libya, and threatens to escalate the protracted crisis in the country.

The European Mission announced its support for the UN mission’s call to take urgent steps to calm the situation, welcoming the initiative to hold an emergency meeting of all concerned parties to resolve the Central Bank crisis peacefully.
