by times news cr

(ANSA) – BRUSSELS, 17 AUG – The EU Nature Restoration Act, one of the key milestones of the Green Deal, comes into force tomorrow. It is intended to restore the Union’s biodiversity, achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and adapt to climate change, improving food security for European citizens. The regulation will also support the achievement of other European ambitions, such as water security. As an overall target, EU states will adopt restoration measures in at least 20% of the EU’s land areas and 20% of its marine areas by 2030. By 2050, such measures should be in place for all ecosystems in need of restoration. Among other things, it provides for maintaining urban green spaces and urban tree cover and increasing them after 2030. It will help achieve the target of restoring at least 25,000 km of rivers into free-flowing rivers by 2030. Furthermore, it will help reverse the decline of pollinator populations and improve their diversity, improve biodiversity in agricultural ecosystems and biodiversity in forest ecosystems and contribute to the commitment to plant at least three billion additional trees by 2030 at EU level.
