New reports and updates on AI appear every day. We always summarize the most important developments for you.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is developing rapidly and changing our everyday lives. From ChatGPT to AI-controlled self-driving cars – the technology is making enormous progress. We have summarized the most exciting innovations and most important recent developments for you.

Starting today, a new law for AI comes into force in the EU. In a significant decision, the law has now set out precise rules to avoid potential discrimination. According to the law, applications are no longer allowed to classify people into groups based on criteria such as skin color or religious views.

In addition, the police and security authorities will only be allowed to use AI-controlled facial recognition if there is a court order. Developers must also clearly label AI-generated content on the Internet.

However, the new rules will only apply gradually. The first bans will come into effect on February 2 next year, and the rules for generally usable AI systems, such as text and image processing, will apply from August 2, 2025. All other provisions of the AI law will not come into effect until August 2, 2026. Until then, the EU Commission is relying on an “AI pact” of hundreds of companies for voluntary self-control.

Apple actually wanted to launch the new operating systems with their own AI in September. Apple Intelligence – as the AI is called – is intended, among other things, to make Siri “smarter” and support users with writing and image editing. However, the new functions are now expected to arrive later than expected. As the news agency Bloomberg reports, the innovations will not arrive until October.

iOS 18 comes with a modified photo app, users can arrange apps freely on the home screen and for the first time, short messages can be sent from the iPhone to Android users via the encrypted RCS protocol instead of via SMS. Registered software developers can already test Apple Intelligence with beta versions of the operating systems. Apple has not yet commented.

OpenAI has sparked a revolution with ChatGPT. New AI models are now springing up all the time. But the tech company doesn’t seem to be satisfied with that and now wants to compete with search engines like Google and Co. – with its own search engine.

OpenAI has now presented a prototype of the AI-based search engine, as technology portals such as “The Verge” report. “SearchGPT” starts with a box with the question “What are you looking for?”. The user can then enter their search query here. SearchGPT then not only spits out random links, but organizes them, according to “The Verge”.

In addition to the result, a short summary of the search results is also displayed. In the prototype presented, you can then ask the search engine further questions. As is often the case with new AI models, the results from SearchGPT are not yet 100% convincing. “The Verge” reports, for example, that when it was presented, the question about the date of a music festival provided the wrong information.

However, it is still just a prototype, and only around 10,000 people are currently testing it. As an OpenAI spokeswoman explained to “The Verge”, the goal is to implement the search directly in ChatGPT.

Google is bringing new features to its AI assistant Gemini. Users can now access the faster version 1.5 Flash for free in over 40 languages and 230 countries. According to Google, this version is particularly better at argumentation and image understanding. The context window has also been enlarged so that longer conversations will be possible in the future.

Another new feature is the display of related content in Gemini’s answers. When the assistant provides facts on a topic, links to further information are now also displayed. This feature is intended to help reduce misinformation and make research easier. The double-check function, which checks answers using Google search, is also being expanded.

Google also says it is expanding access to Gemini for teens ages 16 and up in more than 40 languages. The company emphasizes that the safety and developmental needs of young people are a priority and that additional guidelines and safeguards have been put in place.
