The European Union (EU) stands by Bangladesh during the crisis, said Bernad Spanier, acting ambassador of the EU in Dhaka.

He told reporters after the first courtesy meeting with M. Tauhid Hossain, Foreign Affairs Adviser of the Interim Government at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (August 14) afternoon.

The acting ambassador of the EU said that there was a very good discussion with the foreign adviser. We stand by Bangladesh in times of crisis. We have come today to find out how we can help the interim government. We have worked with the interim governments of many countries.

He said Bangladesh has opportunities for long, medium and short term cooperation.

Many political leaders can seek political asylum in European Union countries, when asked about the position of the EU, Bernad Spanier said, the European Union does not have the opportunity of consular services. Therefore, it will depend on the member countries.

Bernad said that there was no discussion about GSP Plus benefits in the meeting. He said that there was a discussion about labor rights. Hopefully, the interim government will look into this matter.
