EUObserver: Hungary blocks another EU sanction

The European Union is ready to sanction Russian justice officials and agents involved in Vladimir Kara-Murza in the detention of an opposition journalist (highlighted in our picture), but Hungary vetoed this at the last moment, writes the Index the EUObserver based on your information.

According to EUObserver, the ambassadors of the European Union have practically agreed to sanction those who took part in Kara-Murza’s detention and conviction, as well as in the poisoning assassination attempts against the opposition politician. The EU foreign ministers would have finalized the decision on Monday in Brussels, but according to the paper, Hungary vetoed at the last moment at least one of the Russian names on the EU list.

EU diplomats told EUobserver that Hungary is protesting because Ukraine classified OTP Bank as a war sponsor at the beginning of the month. EUObserver contacted the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs regarding why Hungary is blocking the decision, even though it has nothing to do with Ukraine or OTP Bank, but they did not receive an answer.

It was already revealed that Hungary is blocking the disbursement of the eighth tranche of the European Peace Facility intended for Ukrainian arms procurement.
