It’s going to be a strong rider and jumper in Nogent-le-Roi (Eure-et-Loir)! The town awaits the crowd on Saturday May 13 and Sunday May 14, on the grounds of its local club, the BMX Nogent-le-Roi. No less than 4,500 spectators will come to applaud and observe 1,300 riders from 80 clubs in the Normandy, Brittany, Pays de la Loire and Centre-Val de Loire regions for the second round of the France Nord-Ouest BMX challenge. Four hundred races are scheduled.
The challenge represents one of the most important sporting events in Eure-et-Loir for this first semester. Organizing such an event is sport for Emmanuel Eugénie, president of the Nogent-le-Roi club, which has some 170 members: “The enthusiasm for BMX has been enormous for the past ten years”, notes- he.
The BMX, abbreviation of Bicycle Motocross, dates from the 1970s. The American discipline arrived in France ten years later and has since gradually taken its place on the flat lands of Eure-et-Loir. “The practice represents more than 52% of the department’s licensed cyclists. Popular with young people in particular – “this sport reassures parents because we evolve on a closed circuit” – it owes this enthusiasm in particular to the results of French pilots at the Olympic Games, because yes, BMX has been an Olympic discipline since 2008. “Some riders are real rock stars,” assures the manager.
Eurelian pilots have their chance
On the heights of the castle park, near the golf course and the football field, the crowd is expected. Last month, “a national record was broken in Vire, in Normandy, in Calvados, during the first round of the Challenge France BMX, specifies Emmanuel Eugénie. On other quarters of regions, in the south-west or south-east, we turn around around 600 pilots. Such an organization here requires a lot of volunteers, financial means and sponsors. »
On the bumpy BMX tracks, the Eurelian pilots have their chance. “We have young nuggets in our Nogent club but also at Luisant BMX club, Chartres BMX and BC 28. The boys ride fast and well, like Victor Piot, Elias Moreau, Sébastien Pichard and Etan Communeau. Among the girls too, it’s no joke. Capucine Merie, child of the club, was a national driver last year. She will win, I’m sure. »
