jpnn.comJAKARTA – The England National Team failed to become champions of EURO 2024 after being defeated by the Spanish National Team 1-2 in the final match at the Olympiastadion, Berlin, Germany, Monday morning.

England captain Harry Kane said the 2-1 defeat to Spain was a painful one and will last a long time, as the Three Lions have failed to win a European Championship final in two successive seasons. “It hurts and it will hurt for a long time,” he said.

England also lost in the EURO 2020 final to Italy at Wembley, having reached the World Cup semi-finals two years earlier.

England were also knocked out by France in the 2022 World Cup quarter-finals, with Kane missing a last-minute penalty.

The England captain, who was substituted in the 60th minute, admitted he was very disappointed to have to watch Spain score the winning goal which he called “hard to take”.

“It’s hard to put into words how we feel at the moment. We played well to get the game back and get the ball rolling,” Kane was quoted as saying by AFP on Monday.

England fell behind to Nico Williams’ goal but equalised through substitute Cole Palmer before Mikel Oyarzabal scored Spain’s winner four minutes from time.

“We’ve been used to coming from behind throughout this tournament, we’ve forgotten that,” said Kane.

England captain Harry Kane said the 1-2 defeat to Spain was “very painful” and would last a long time.
