They are the biggest winners in the West Indies, assures the Française des jeux (FDJ) in a communiqué.
The couple was presented with their imposing check in Boulogne-Billancourt. The winning combination was 3, 8, 18, 34, 49 stars 3 and 7. But “it’s only the second time I’ve played those numbers; I had the feeling that my previous combination did not bring us luck, ”explains the husband to the FDJ.
On the day of the results, the man has his ticket checked and understands that he must approach the FDJ, who finally call the couple. “My husband immediately realized the magnitude of the gain, but I had understood fifty-three thousand euros,” jokes his wife.
Create jobs in Martinique
It is a change of life that will therefore take place for this couple made up of an employee and a worker who wish to remain anonymous. “It’s a major event in our lives; we struggled a lot and the wheel is now turning,” they smile. For the time being, the news has barely filtered through to their relatives. Only a couple of friends were informed and the winning ticket was hidden under a pile of towels in the bathroom while waiting for payment.
Their children will be notified later, but the couple is already thinking about the future. First, they will have to help their loved ones, then improve their daily lives: buy a main residence as well as a secondary one, and a car for each.

Finally, the two spouses want to leave their jobs to create local businesses and therefore jobs: “It is essential for us to offer professional opportunities to the inhabitants of the island”. But “in the meantime, our priority is to celebrate the news with a champagne aperitif”.
For its part, the Fort-de-France service station also benefits from the jackpot. “La Française des jeux got in touch with the manager yesterday and told him that it was with us that the prize was won, confides an employee to The 1st. We haven’t received the victory sign yet, but since this morning a lot of players are trying their luck in the establishment. »
On May 5, this couple from Martinique as well as a player from the United Kingdom and one from Switzerland won the EuroMillions jackpot and shared 159.1 million euros all three.
