How the Europa League 24/25 draw works for Lazio and Roma: more games in the first phase that can open the round of 16.
Like the Champions League, the 2024/2025 Europa League is also undergoing a restyling in its first phase. Abandoning the eight groups, the ‘second’ continental tournament that sees Atalanta as the reigning champion, embraces a single one.
A sort of championship in which Roma and Lazio, the two Italian teams present in the competition, will try to pass to the round of 16 and advance gradually, in a knockout phase that from that round onwards will be the same as in the past.
The big difference is the number of teams that the Italians will have to face during the group stage: eight, more than double compared to the past. In this round no derbies are planned between teams from the same country, so it will not be possible to see Roma against Lazio in the draw.
