Europe begins exit phase of health emergency related to Covid

The White House medical advisor, Anthony Fauci, expressed his optimism about the situation of the outbreak of the Covid-19 disease in the United States, declaring that the country “is out of the pandemic phase” in terms of the number of new infections, hospitalizations and deaths, but he indicated that it is about to enter another stage.

Fauci indicated that there are indications that Covid-19 in the United States has entered the stage of “endemic disease”, that is, “endemic disease.”

And the infectious disease specialist noted in an interview with “PBS”, Tuesday, that the virus is still in a “pandemic” stage in most parts of the world.

But he warned that the United States had not yet emerged from the danger zone, explaining that he meant the worst periods that passed through the country at the height of the disease’s spread.

He said, “That is, today we do not have 900,000 daily injuries and tens of thousands of hospitalizations and deaths. We are in a low stage today.”

Fauci clarified his words in an interview with the “Washington Post”, Wednesday, and said that, in contrast to the “explosive pandemic phase” that the United States witnessed with the spread of the Omicron strain, he intended to describe how Covid-19 might move towards its classification to ” endemic disease.

And the transformation of infection from a pandemic to an endemic disease means that it spreads at a constant level in certain places and at all times, and perhaps at relatively low rates, which can sometimes be predicted.

Corona “may turn from a pandemic into an endemic disease.” What does this mean?

Some scientists agree that the emerging corona virus will not disappear even in the event of “herd immunity” or the widespread distribution of vaccines against it.

He said: “The world is still in a pandemic, there is no doubt about that, I hope that what is happening is not misinterpreted, we are still in a pandemic.”

Fauci’s comments come at a time when health authorities are grappling with keeping COVID-19 cases stable and dealing with virus changes and mutations.

Although cases in the United States are much lower than in recent months, health officials are watching the situation with cautious optimism as highly contagious variants continue to spread.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) says cases have risen by about 25 percent last week.
