After the announcement of a massive German support plan, the Twenty-Seven are calling for more consultation.

The Europeans are calling for better coordination of their economic policies in the face of the war in Ukraine, while the temptation of everyone for themselves is resurfacing, as in the early hours of the Covid crisis.

“We must show solidarity as we did for the Covid crisis”, pleaded Bruno Le Maire, Monday, on his arrival in Luxembourg for a meeting of finance ministers of the euro zone, followed by an Ecofin summit at 27, Tuesday. “It is essential that we do things together in Europe in the face of an energy crisis that will last, he insisted. We need a global economic strategy and we need to be more united. Otherwise, we risk the fragmentation of the euro zone.” As at the start of the Covid crisis, the borrowing rates of the various members of the euro zone have been diverging dangerously for a few months.
