The European Union is taking care of its developing relations with this disputed territory, with powerful economic and environmental stakes. A summit is to be held Monday and Tuesday.

There had not been a summit between the European Union and the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (Celac) since 2015. And the Covid pandemic, very severe in Latin America, had, it is said, prevented reaching a new high. The Spanish Presidency of the EU wanted to renew with this high-level meeting which will bring together, in Brussels, between Monday and Tuesday, 33 Heads of State and Government, from Argentina to Brazil, from Suriname to Chile, from the Dominican Republic to Belize… The Celac represents 600 million people (14% of the world population and 21% of the world GDP), a geostrategic issue disputed with the United States and China.
