The European Commission announced a game of 6,200 million euros to finance sustainable, safe and efficient infrastructure within the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T)of which 70 million will go to Spanish projects and another 177 million to joint projects in which Spain participates.

The Community Executive will finance a total of 107 transport initiatives in the European Union, with 80% of the funds destined to support “projects that offer a more efficient, ecological and intelligent network of railways, inland waterways and maritime routes”, in addition to to promote the “solidarity lines” with Ukraine, the Commission said in a statement.

Spain, specifically, will receive 27.9 million euros for electrification work in the section between Castellón and Valdellós of the Mediterranean Corridor.

In addition, it will obtain another 6.7 million euros for the supply of energy to the port of Algeciras and another 4.9 million for the construction of a car park in the section of the Mediterranean Corridor between Murcia and Algeciras.

Another 22 million euros will go to the Atlantic Corridor in the section between Atxondo and Abadiño, in addition to 7.3 million to build an intermodal platform in the port of Huelva.

The EU will also award a grant of 1.8 million euros to carry out improvement works at the Zaragoza maritime terminal, with the aim of improving cross-border traffic between Spain and France.

The EU will also grant 177 million euros to joint projects in which Spain participates, including 62 million to deploy intelligent transport systems in the Atlantic Corridor, the Mediterranean Corridor and the Corridor that links Ireland in the North Sea and with the Mediterranean, in the south of France.
