“I’m planning to go to London this week to meet Son Heung-min”
National soccer team coach Hong Myung-bo, who is on a business trip to Europe, will meet with ‘captain’ Son Heung-min (Tottenham).
A Korea Football Association official said on the 17th, “Coach Hong is scheduled to travel to London this week to meet with Son Heung-min.”
Coach Hong went on a business trip to Europe on the 15th to appoint a foreign coach.
Coach Hong, who had planned to meet foreign coaches in Spain and Portugal, decided to take advantage of his schedule to travel to London to meet Son Heung-min face-to-face.
Coach Hong stated before leaving the country that he would meet with European players if their schedules matched.
Tottenham Hotspur will play a pre-season friendly match against Heart of Midlothian in Edinburgh, Scotland on the 17th, followed by a practice match against Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in London on the 20th.
While the Football Association has not revealed a specific schedule, Coach Hong is expected to meet Son Heung-min between the two matches.
Son Heung-min is the first overseas player that Coach Hong met after being appointed as the head coach of the national soccer team.
Coach Hong has a connection with Son Heung-min, having worked with him at the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.
A Korea Football Association official explained, “It has not been decided who else Coach Hong will meet after meeting Son Heung-min,” but “We are also making arrangements with players playing in other leagues.”
Coach Hong plans to return home next week after finding a foreign coach and completing interviews with European teams during his trip to Europe.
After completing the formation of the coaching staff and identifying K-League players, the team plans to announce the roster for the national team for the third round of the 2026 North & Central America World Cup qualifiers scheduled for September.
The national team will play the first match of the third round of World Cup qualifying against Palestine at home on September 5th at 8 PM. Then, they will play the second match away to Oman on the 10th.
