Berlin France, Great Britain and Germany issued a joint statement on Thursday evening condemning the behavior of the Iranian government and expressing their doubts about the revival of the nuclear deal. “We call on Iran to return to the International Atomic Energy Agency’s (IAEA) Additional Protocol and all JCPoA-related monitoring and verification measures (to the nuclear deal), halt nuclear escalation and now urgently implement the on-table agreement on To accept the restoration of the agreement while this is still possible, ”says the statement from the three countries published by the federal government late Thursday evening. Since March of this year, a viable agreement has been in place that would allow the US to return to the nuclear deal and bring Iran back to its commitments. In the statement, the countries regretted that Iran has not yet used its diplomatic opportunities and called on the Iranian government to do so immediately.

The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Rafael Grossi, on Thursday described Iran’s announced dismantling of 27 surveillance cameras at his agency as a “fatal blow” to efforts to revive the 2015 accord. Iran removed the cameras in response to an IAEA resolution calling on the Islamic Republic to work more closely with the UN agency on surveillance and provide answers to specific questions.

This escalation endangers the indirect talks between Iran, the USA and other countries about a revival of the agreement, which have been going on for months in Vienna. The United States had terminated the agreement in 2018 under its then President Donald Trump and again imposed sanctions on Iran. As a result, Iran no longer complied with all of the conditions. The nuclear deal aims to prevent Iran from building nuclear weapons. Western states warn that the country is getting closer to this goal. The government in Tehran denies such intentions.
