“Behind the title and names of our ballot, our commitments are hidden. Something else is being hidden, however, my own name is also being hidden.” With this characteristic phrase, Kyriakos Mitsotakis takes it upon himself in the pre-election battle and with the “weapon” of the need for stability, he looks forward to the maximum possible rally.
He characteristically pointed out that “each vote in the European elections gives me new strength to claim what Greece needs. To go to the European Council stronger, to strengthen our common defense, to preserve the resources of the Recovery Fund, to increase the European funds for our farmers. I need this strength the next day at the European Council.”
In the European elections, neither abstention, nor inactivity, nor passivity, nor indifference are allowed, the ruling party emphasizes, and the prime minister emphasized that “any messages of protest must be translated into messages of serious responsibility, perspective, certainty, continuity and democracy”. From the conference of New Democracy – which ended yesterday – he sent out messages of unity and gathering, saying that “on the way to the polls we all have a duty: to turn our backs on division. A division for which our country paid dearly, cost us in the past”.
At the same time, the prime minister wanted to close scenarios that he can claim for a European office. “In the world of myths that some people want to live in, I still hear different scenarios. Scenarios to which I answer once again: we live in Europe and we want Ursula von der Leyen as President. But we also stay in Greece with New Democracy and Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the forefront” he pointed out.
He made special reference to the battle against populism, which he said is one of the great dangers facing European countries. In fact, he noted that “it can have different names, it can have far-left or far-right political signs”
What he has been emphasizing lately in all his public interventions is that there is no room for loose voting and wrong messages. “Any shadow that could emerge from the polls can cloud and question this country’s path, disrupting much of what today will be taken for granted, while it can open a back door to new adventures,” he noted.
Fire at the opposition
The prime minister launched new arrows at both Koumundourou and Harilaou Trikoupi yesterday, while criticism is also leveled at the parties that move to the right of the New Democracy. In the final stretch to the European elections, the political thermometer hits red and it is a given that the tones are not going to drop.
From the podium of the “blue” conference, Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted that:
– Mr. Kasselakis has Mr. Polakis in his soul, because SYRIZA never changed. As he said “he was, he is and he will remain. And because he doesn’t know what to do, he does what he knows, which is only to water the political debate with toxicity.”
– Mr. Androulakis has chosen to “paint” PASOK with the colors of SYRIZA.
He also fired at parties that move to the right of New Democracy, referring to those who sell faith, patriotism, turning the political scene into telemarketing. It is recalled that on the first day of the conference he had pointedly noted that “to talk about homeland and religion while at the same time selling wax ointments and alleged manuscripts of Christ, constitutes an act of maximum political deception”. In the next period in Piraeus, they want to increase the gathering of traditional voters of the party, and special emphasis will be placed on Northern Greece, where, based on opinion polls, the most leaks are recorded.
The election campaign is door to door.
“We must not let the propaganda tarnish the great positive image of the country, by magnifying individual existing weaknesses” noted Kyriakos Mitsotakis, seeking the maximum possible mobilization of the blue. As he pointed out, “I never said that Greece became a paradise. I never hid the problems. Whenever there were difficulties and problems, I stood first and took responsibility for our actions.”
He made special reference to a series of moves that have been made in recent years, underlining that “the country’s path, however, is a path of continuous progress, despite the difficulties, despite the resistances. And we must not allow an election campaign to run full of lies and conspiracy theories, which poison public opinion, confuse citizens and ultimately create immunity to nonsense.”
New Democracy is preparing for a door-to-door election campaign in order to promote the government project. Today Kyriakos Mitsotakis will visit Tilos and Rhodes, while tomorrow he will visit Thessaloniki.
At the same time, in the next period all the top officials of the party will carry out tours in order to achieve the maximum possible rally. As far as the European ballot paper is concerned, this is almost locked, while the official presentation will take place next Monday
