The European Organization of Inspectors Honors Nature Photographers

The European Organization of Inspectors, representing 38 member countries, recently held its first annual nature photography competition. The competition aimed to showcase the work of volunteers and inspectors who are dedicated to preserving protected areas across Europe.

The judging panel included renowned nature photographer Dafna Ben-Nun from Israel, who reviewed submissions from volunteers in countries such as Malta, the United Kingdom, Italy, and Germany.

Participants were required to submit photos capturing their work in the field, accompanied by personal stories that highlighted the challenges and triumphs of their conservation efforts.

The winning photo, taken by Doron Ptolemy, a volunteer with 5 years of experience at the Nature and Parks Authority for sea turtles, stood out for its unique composition and narrative. Ptolemy’s winning image depicted a scene near a hatchery farm at night, where he and his team were monitoring the emergence of sea turtles. Describing the photograph, Ptolemy said, “This is my self-portrait, the camera was placed on a tripod, long exposure with a remote control, we are near the hatchery farm at night and check if there is an emergence of cockroaches in order to release them into the wild.”

The judging team commended the photograph, stating, “A genius photograph that shows different levels of time and space. The movement of the flashlight creates a sign of a heartbeat.”

The competition not only celebrated the talent of nature photographers but also shed light on the vital work of volunteers and inspectors in preserving natural habitats and wildlife. As the European Organization of Inspectors continues to advocate for environmental conservation, initiatives like the nature photography competition serve as a powerful reminder of the dedication and passion that drives individuals to protect our planet’s precious ecosystems.
