Today the karate competitions at the European Universiade in Hungary started.

An İdman.biz employee reports from Miskolc that 7 athletes from the Azerbaijan State Academy of Physical Education and Sports (ASAPES) will take to the mat on the first day of the competition.

Five of them will test their strength in kumite, two in kata.

75 kg

Nijat Karimli, who was exempted from the first round, had his first fight against Ali Guney (Istanbul Kent University, Turkey). Our karateka lost to his opponent with a score of 1:4. Since Guney did not reach the final, Karimli said goodbye to the competition early.

Vahid Gasanov met Jose Agostinho Marques (Technical University of Coimbra, Portugal) in his debut fight. His opponent won with a score of 6:1.

In the first fight, Osman Osmanli met Fatih Şen (Bursa Uludağ University, Turkey), who defeated Kevin Ernst (University of Jena, Germany). According to the first point principle, our karateka won the fight (4:4). He also recorded a second fight. The ASAPES student defeated Anton Pinardi (University of Edinburgh, UK) with a score of 5:0. In the semi-finals, he fought Danilo Božović (University of Saints Cyril and Methodius in Skopje, North Macedonia) and lost with a score of 1:5.

Osmanli also lost the fight for bronze. Jachym Tinavsky (Prague Technical University, Czech Republic) defeated him with a score of 3:0, so our karateka finished the Games in 5th place.

Renata Arabli met Laura Simon (University of Jena, Germany) in her first match, won with a score of 7:0 and advanced to the next stage. In the second match, our athlete lost to Angela Mojsovska (University of St. Cyril and Methodius, North Macedonia) with a score of 1:9.

Fatima Badalova met with Theodosia Glamouki (University of Cyprus). Our karateka suffered a defeat with a score of 0:4. Since her opponent reached the final, Badalova had a repechage match with Fatma Uygur (Istanbul Aydin University). Our athlete lost with a score of 1:8 and finished the competition in 9th place.

A mistake
Men

At the start, Rovshan Aliyev competed with Fabian Straub (University of Stuttgart, Germany). Our karateka lost with a difference of 0.3 points – 22.3:22.6. Since the German was unable to reach the final, Aliyev said goodbye to the competition.

Women

Zahra Gurbanzade’s first opponent was Kata Bokori (Eotvos Lorand University, Hungary). The ASAPES student defeated her opponent and advanced to the next stage. However, in the second match she lost to Natasha Fernandes (University of Lisbon) – 24.1:22.5. Zahra’s opponent reached the final, after which our athlete met Michaela Cukanova (Slovak University of Technology) in a consolation match and lost.

It should be noted that ASAPES is represented at the competition by 12 karatekas.
