In February 2024, the eurozone’s largest economy, Germany, faced another challenge. Over the last winter month, total retail sales in the country fell by 1.9 percent compared to January. As Day.Az reports with reference to Lenta.ru, such data were provided by the Federal Statistical Agency of Germany (Destatis).
In annual terms, the figure decreased by 2.7 percent, while the February decline was the most significant since October 2022, the department specified. Moreover, retail sales in Germany declined for the fourth month in a row. For example, in January the drop compared to the December figure was 0.3 percent, and year-on-year – 1.4 percent.
Sales of food products in February decreased by 1.7 percent on a monthly basis, while sales of non-food products fell by 1 percent, the German statistical office concluded.
