Rome is not among the finalists to host the Eurovision Song Contest 2022, an international event that will return to Italy thanks to the victory of the Maneskin. In contention remain Milan, Turin, Bologna, Pesaro and Rimini. The capital was rejected as a location due to lack of adequate space and many accused the Virginia Raggi junta of having acted superficially. Marcello de Vito, president of the Capitoline Assembly, in this regard presented an immediate question to ask the mayor for explanations.
“It is absurd and unacceptable that the mayor Raggi and the Giunta have lost the Eurovision Song Contest because they could not find a suitable location in Rome. – commented the former M5S today in Forza Italia – It is not even conceivable that now the ‘event is hosted by another Italian city after our country had obtained the right to host it thanks to the Måneskin, a Roman group! (…) This is lack of will, lack of determination, lack of commitment, other than great events ! Yet another setback caused to our city by a literally inadequate council. Eurovision-Rome, Gualtieri: “Only one site presented and not suitable from the start”

The criticisms of the current council on the management of the Eurovision 2022 issue also came from Roberto Gualteri, candidate for mayor for the center-left: “Another proof of the superficiality and inefficiency of the Raggi administration. They presented only one site to the EBU organizers ( European Union of Broadcasting): a pavilion of the Nuova Fiera di Roma that does not meet the required requirements, including the minimum height. A site therefore rejected from the start. (…). With the Mayor Raggi no space or facilities for young Roman artists and talents, no possibility for the Romans to host and experience a great international event.
