Investor sentiment in the eurozone worsened further in August, hitting its lowest point since January, according to the latest Sentix survey results released on Monday. The Sentix Investor Confidence Index, which measures investor sentiment, fell to -13.9 points in August from -7.3 points in July. This drop was more severe than the -8.0 points predicted by analysts.

The component of the index that measures future expectations also fell significantly, falling to -8.8 points from 1.5 points in July. This reduction in expectations shows that investors are preparing for a deterioration in the economic situation of the eurozone in the next six months.

The survey showed that investors’ concerns are currently focused on the fragile geopolitical climate, especially in the Middle East, the upcoming state elections in Germany and the uncertainty surrounding the US presidential election scheduled for later this year.

In Germany, the largest economy in the eurozone, investor sentiment was hit hard, with the index falling to -31.1 points in August from -19.0 points in July. The assessment of the current situation in Germany also fell significantly to -42.8 points from -32.3 points the previous month.

The data, which reflects the sentiments of 1,150 investors, was collected between August 1 and 3, according to Sentix. This latest drop in investor sentiment reflects growing pessimism about the eurozone’s economic prospects amid a range of global uncertainties.
