Even if Afridi hadn’t been injured, Pakistan would have lost – Gavaskar’s response to Babar Azam

Melbourne:

One of the leading fast bowlers of the Pakistan team is Shakeenshah Afridi.

In yesterday’s final, he dismissed England opener Alex Halsey in the first over.

In the 13th over, Shakeenshaw Afridi was injured while taking a catch from England batsman Harry Brooks. He left the field with a right knee injury.

He bowled just 2.1 overs. Shakeen Shah Afridi failed to bowl the remaining 11 balls. Pakistan captain Babar Azam said after the defeat that his inability to bowl the ball at full length took its toll. He also said that if Shakeen Shah Afridi continued to bowl, the course of the game could have changed.

In response to Babar Azam, former Indian captain and television commentator Gavaskar commented on this. He said that even if Shakeen Shah Afridi had not been injured, Pakistan would have lost. He said in this regard:-

I don’t think Pakistan would have won if Shakeensha Afridi didn’t get injured. Because they didn’t score enough runs.

Pakistan team has scored less by 15 to 20 runs. If they score 150 to 155 runs, they have a better chance.

I don’t think 10 balls not bowled by Shakeenshaw would have made that much of a difference. Maybe if Shakeensha had bowled, Pakistan would have got an extra wicket. But England will win.

He said this.
