Stanis Bujakera au studio de ACTUALITE.CD

Journalist Stanis Bujakera was placed under provisional arrest warrant on Monday after being interviewed by the prosecutor at the Kinshasa-Gombe high court. Me Hervé Diakiese, his legal advisor, reacted in these terms:

“He has just been deprived of his freedom. This means that the prosecution believes that he has indications of guilt. As far as we are concerned, we believe that in his state and given the elements, he could have returned home and continued to appear and provide evidence. We are going to fight so that Stanis Bujakera finds his family, finds his job which he does with professionalism and seriousness.”

The lawyer promises to submit a request for provisional release of the deputy publishing director of ACTUALITE.CD.

“People must not find themselves in a situation of deprivation of freedom of their profession when until now we do not find the necessity of their continued detention even in the interest of the manifestation of the truth”, added Mr. Diakiese.

Stanis Bujakera is accused of spreading false rumors and disseminating false information for an article published by Jeune Afrique implicating military intelligence in the assassination of former minister Cherubin Okende, even though he is not the author of the article. Before being transferred to the prosecution, Stanis Bujakera was interviewed twice for long hours by the commission of inquiry into the circumstances leading to the assassination of the opponent and former Minister of Transport Cherubin Okende.
