Even more missed games in the German Ice Hockey League

Berlin – The Corona mess in the German Ice Hockey League will get bigger with the next game cancellations. A team quarantine has also been officially ordered for the Nuremberg Ice Tigers, as the DEL and the club announced on Sunday. After Corona cases in the past few days, the away game on Sunday at the Straubing Tigers was canceled as was the home game on Tuesday against the Iserlohn Roosters.

Already on Thursday, the entire team of the master Eisbären Berlin had to go into quarantine for five days. The Schwenninger Wild Wings and the Bietigheim Steelers are also in team quarantine due to positive corona tests. After a number of cases, the Augsburg Panthers did not have a team for this weekend. On Sunday there were only two games left: The Krefeld Pinguine surprisingly defeated the EHC Munich 3:2 after a penalty shoot-out, the Kölner Haie were guests in Bremerhaven.

The polar bear party in Nuremberg has already been rescheduled

“Unfortunately, it has hit us too. Despite the greatest possible caution, it has once again become clear how uncontrollable the pandemic is. Protecting our players and team members, but also our opponents, is now our top priority,” said Eisbären sports director Stéphane Richer.

Because of the team quarantine, the games on Friday against Nuremberg (catch-up date: March 25) and on Sunday against Iserlohn were canceled for the Berliners. Berlin national player Jonas Müller found the quarantine decision difficult, especially since all polar bear players have been vaccinated three times. “Maybe the break will do us good,” he hopes. It was not yet known on Sunday evening when the Berliners would return to play.
