Even though it’s a compliment, it’s those words that annoy me the most: Dulquer Salmaan

Actor Dulquer Salmaan is clarifying his point of view towards calls like Chocolate Boy and Charming. The actor talks about the looks in an interview given to film critic Bharadwaj Rangan in Galata Plus.

Dulquer was responding to the question whether there was a situation where people did not consider him as a serious actor because of his charm.

‘Looks are not important in Malayalam cinema. The look of the actor should be suitable for the character. There should be a sense of credibility, that’s all.

I have an urban/metro look. If you want to say that mine is a bit of a groomed look. I don’t mean terribly good looking. I am not saying this out of modesty.

That’s how I see myself in my mind. But let those who see have faith. Otherwise people will think that I am acting like a mask.

I have always had a hard time accepting and thinking of myself as good looking. I have never felt that because I look good, no one takes me seriously.

“I don’t feel anything but happy when I see the comments that it’s so charming and eye-catching,” said Dulquer.

Dulquer then spoke about the not so happy words in the comments praising him. He says these comments also put pressure on him to choose different roles.

There are annoying comments like ‘well done as usual, beautiful as usual’. Because I don’t want to be this ‘regular’.

When I hear those comments, I feel like I’m good at everything else, but I don’t have anything that makes me different from others.

So I will try to improve myself. “Maybe this is the thinking behind trying to do non-glamorous roles in dark mode,” says Dulquer.

Dulquer added that his new film Chup will also be seen as a part of this.
The film hit the theaters on September 23 and is performing well at the box office. The film, which had a budget of 10 crores, collected 7 crores in three days.

Although it is a small film compared to the recent Bollywood releases, Chuppin has managed to get a good opening in the theatres. Chuppin’s first day collection is around Rs 2.5-3 crore. The movie continues to run successfully in the theaters with great audience attention.

The film begins with the murder of a film critic in the city of Mumbai. Film critics are being killed again in the same way in the city. The investigation team finds out that there is a serial killer behind this. The film is a search for this killer. Dulquer plays a character called Danny in the film.
