Time passed quickly and gone were the years of dominance by INEOS in the peloton world. They undoubtedly dominated the last decade but now they are not the best, so Geraint Thomas and Luke Rowe are looking for ways to turn the page.
Luke Rowe said: “While it’s all doom and gloom from the outside, what I can say is that I believe the people in this organization have faith and a desire to get back up. But it’s a long process,” he said in the latest episode of The Happening Watts Podcast with Geraint Thomas.
The former Tour de France champion replied: “I don’t think there is only one thing. There are many things, but they all add up. I don’t think there is a silver bullet as to why we struggled this year to get results, but there are many things. I think for now the main goal should be simply that as a team we need to be the best, the strongest and the most united. We’re in this together, we’re all moving in the same direction together and we have these big goals and aspirations. We just have to win some races again,” Thomas said.
He added: “Let’s face it, Pog (Pogacar, ndr) and Vingo (Vinggaard, ndr) will be difficult to beat, but there are still many races and many good riders in the team. There is still a lot of success to be had, but this year it is very close, but not so in many cases. It’s about turning the situation around, but we still have the right people around us to do it. But it definitely takes some honest talking and looking in the mirror,” Geraint pointed out.
