After winning the Vuelta a España last year, the next logical step in Remco Evenepoel’s progression was the Giro d’Italia. This is how he felt it and also his entire environment and team, with which they quickly drew up a schedule to do it in the best way.

However, the young Belgian revealed that he has doubts about his choice. They are motivated by the routes of the Corsa Rosa and the Tour de France, according to what he told L’Equipe. “We decided to go to the Giro this year, but when I see that there are more mountains in the Giro than in the Tour, I wonder if I made the right decision.”

Evenepoel knows that, although he shone in the Spanish ports, it is not the same to do so in the chained Italians, although he did not mention the advantage that he can have in the time trials of the beautiful boot event. It is a fact that the course is favorable to croners who climb, like Primož Roglič and Geraint Thomas, but also that the mountain of the last week will be brutal.

“In the long term, yes, I would like to do my first Tour in 2024, but there will also be the Olympic Games and we have to determine if they are compatible with the Tour overall,” closed the world champion.
