Remco Evenepoel confirmed his favoritism and won the Clásica de San Sebastián for the second consecutive year. The Belgian was able to beat Pello Bilbao in a one-on-one definition.

The Soudal rider was once again the winner of the Donostia San Sebastián Klasikoa, this time wearing the rainbow jersey, after traveling 203 kilometers around the Basque town.

A quintet led by Romain Bardet (Team DSM Firmenich) animated the first part of the competition in the company of Julien Bernard (Lidl – Trek), Nathan Van Hooydonck (Jumbo-Visma), Franck Bonnamour (AG2R Citroën Team) and the local Mikel Iturria (Euskaltel – Euskadi) until the ascent to Jaizkibel (6.9km à 6.1%), where riders such as Iván García Cortina (Movistar) began to move in the peloton.

Already on the ascent to Erlaitz (4km at 10.3%), the expected attack by Remco Evenepoel arrived, who took Peio Bilbao (Barhain) and Aleksandr Vlasov (Bora) to his wheel to join the front of the race where Bardet still survived and Van Hooydonck, holding a one-minute lead over an already reduced field.

At the next critical point – Mendizorrotz (4.1km at 7.3%) – Remco’s pace eliminated the remnants of the initial break, while Felix Gall and Mikel Landa distanced themselves from the pack to try and unsuccessfully link up with the leading trio. It is that they relieved ahead without much suspicion, increasing the differences to more than three minutes despite the efforts of the UAE and Jumbo trains.

Finally, in the passage through Murgil (2.1km at 9.9%), although it seemed that it was Bilbao who suffered from the Belgian’s pace, it was Vlasov who had to drop the hook to settle for the third step of the podium. Already at the finish line, Evenepoel beat Peio one-on-one, raising his arms to celebrate his third title in the Spanish competition, the second in a row since he won in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
