Every 4 hours a woman is a victim of violence in Brazil. In 2022, more than 2,400 cases were registered, of which almost 500 were feminicides, that is, at least one woman died every day just because she was a woman, according to the Security Observatory Network.

Ways to save the lives and welcome these women are being debated this Monday (17) and Tuesday (18) at the 1st National Meeting of the Houses of the Brazilian Woman, in Brasília.

The House provides humanized and integrated care to women victims of violence. For example, welcoming and screening services are offered; psychosocial support; police station; access to Justice, the Public Prosecutor’s Office and the Public Defender’s Office.

At the meeting, experiences are exchanged about the work carried out at Casa da Mulher and guidelines and service protocols are also updated.

“So that we don’t have each place with an isolated house, alone, we need to have a line of assistance, a line of quality, of the effectiveness of the result, while a national policy that will be able to support the lives of women and guarantee safety in the service”, explained the Minister of Women, Cida Gonçalves.

“We are talking about indigenous, black, periphery, quilombola and riverside women who are everywhere where violence is also very present. So this adequacy is very important, this special look at this diversity. We can no longer think of a house with standardized care”, said the Minister of Indigenous Peoples, Sônia Guajajara, on the importance of a differentiated welcome.

In March, the federal government announced the construction of 40 new Women’s Houses. In Bahia, there will be four, with an investment of R$ 47 million, in the cities of Feira de Santana, Itabuna, Irecê and Salvador, scheduled to be inaugurated in October.
