Built on an 8,000 sq.ft plot of land in Kagalipura, on the outskirts of Bangalore, is a beautiful home named ‘Breathe’. As the name of this eco-friendly house with unique design and architecture, so is the work. Due to its design, Breathe has a more open, airy and relaxed atmosphere than typical homes. Built with modern architecture and traditional technology, this 2 BHK dream home feels like a part of Mother Nature itself.

The house belongs to couple Ramki and Swarna who have been working for the protection of wildlife and environment for years through their various projects. Architect Deepa Suryaprakash of Chennai and Guruprasanna C of Mysore have built it.

Ramki and Swarna always wanted a home that was natural, 100% energy efficient, eco-friendly and sustainable. In 2019, he decided to turn this dream into reality, and started working on it together with Deepa and Guru. Deepa and Guru are eminent architects as well as the founders of ‘Betweenlines’, an urban, architectural and interior design company started in 2003.

His company has also won awards in this field for his work. “This project is one of the most special projects for us,” says Deepa.

…eco-friendly ‘Breathe’ made from waste materials

In 3 years, i.e. in 2022, he made Breathe ready-made. Designed with the environment in mind, this eco-friendly earth home uses only local and recycled materials. Apart from this, the garden here, laden with many vegetables, flowers and herb plants, gives different comfort to the eyes of the beholder. Walls of natural and biodegradable bricks, sustainably made floors and nets and balconies have been built inside the breathers for pure air and sunlight. Not only this, the foundation of this house has also been made with special eco-friendly technology.

There is a small pond for rainwater harvesting and a 1,000-litre tank on the terrace. Apart from this, 7kW solar panels have also been installed here, which meet the electricity requirement of this house. Due to its natural environment, this house has now become a home for many birds and is a fine example of modernity and sustainability.
