Galaxy foldables have been gaining enormous popularity, revolutionizing the foldable smartphone market and showing the potential for innovative designs by moving away from traditional smartphone models. In particular, the latest Galaxy Z Flip5 and Z Fold5 have caught the attention of consumers.
In this two-part series, Samsung will dive into the extraordinary technologies created by Galaxy developers and explain the related terminology for everyone to understand.
IP Rating
IP, or protection rating, is a standard that measures a device’s ability to withstand the elements. The first digit of an IP rating indicates the level of defense against dust and foreign particles, while the second digit represents the level of protection against liquids: the higher the digit, the better the level of protection. The Galaxy Z Fold3 and Z Flip3 models were the first foldable products to achieve the IPX8 rating, followed by the Z Fold4, Z Flip4, Z Fold5 and Z Flip5.
Flex Window
Flex Window, the cover screen of a Galaxy Z Flip device, was first included in the Galaxy Z Flip5 model. This screen will allow you to take photos, reply to messages or play content without opening the phone.
Folding case
This is an accessory for Galaxy Z Flip5 that uses near field communication (NFC) technology. When a Flipsuit card is inserted into the case, Flex Window plays content linked to the card.
FlexCam
FlexCam is a camera feature that uses Galaxy Z 5’s Flex Window and the high-quality rear camera, giving you the opportunity to take photos from various angles without opening the phone. In addition, it is possible to take photos comfortably hands-free when the Flex mode and the cover screen camera are activated.
Multi Window
This feature gives you the option to open multiple windows on the Galaxy Z Fold screen, supporting up to three at the same time. Multi Window offers a multitasking experience to simultaneously perform multiple tasks such as streaming, shopping, web browsing and gaming.
Swipe Gesture
Swipe Gesture is a handy feature that lets you control the Galaxy’s foldable screen using finger gestures. For example, you can split the screen horizontally and open a new app by swiping with two fingers from the bottom to the top. These intuitive gestures improve multitasking efficiency, offering an optimal way to operate the device.
Cristal ultrafino
Ultra-thin glass (UTG) is an essential component of Galaxy foldable displays. The exceptional thinness of the material allows it to be flexibly bent and, at the same time, has scratch-resistant properties characteristic of traditional glass.
Bisagra flexible
The flexible hinge is the component that allows you to fold and unfold a foldable Galaxy, improving the life of the phone and allowing Flex Mode functionality.
Flex Mode (Modo Flex)
When partially folded, the Galaxy device goes into Flex Mode. That is, you can place your foldable device on a flat surface without the need for a separate phone stand to comfortably watch a movie, write an email, or make a video call to a friend.
Flex Mode Panel
Flex Mode Panel allows you to seamlessly use the control panel while enjoying videos, music or other content when the Galaxy Foldable is set to Flex Mode. This feature can be activated in Labs.
Taskbar
The taskbar conveniently presents favorites and shortcuts to recently used apps at the bottom of a displayed Galaxy screen. This way, you can easily switch between applications and enjoy a seamless multitasking experience, just like you would on a PC.
Under Screen Camera (UDC)
The Under-Display Camera (UDC) achieves full-screen viewing by hiding the Galaxy Z Fold’s camera beneath the display. With UDC, the front camera is seamlessly integrated to eliminate the need for notches or holes in the display. Samsung initially introduced the cutting-edge UDC technology in the Galaxy Z Fold3 model and has continued to implement it in the Z Fold4 model and the latest Galaxy Z Fold5.
