The first experiments should take place by the end of the year in three French departments. But from the beginning of 2024, it will be possible to present, during a roadside check, an “e-driving license” via your smartphone thanks to the France Identity application, reports The Parisian mardi.

This “dematerialized” document will not replace the physical version of the permit, but will come “in addition to simplifying the lives of citizens who are fond of digital administrative procedures”, explained Gérald Darmanin, Minister of the Interior and Overseas. .

Valid for a roadside check

According to the Minister of the Interior, this document, “a certified copy of an administrative document” would make it possible to better fight “against the scourge of identity theft” and to “facilitate the obtaining, for example, of a power of attorney . »

This new formula license may be presented in particular during a roadside check. It will be accessible even without an Internet connection. It can also allow you to edit proof of driving certification, whether for a rental company or an employer.

Available on iOS and Android

To use it, the user must go to the France Identity application, available on iOS and Android. He will be able to find his “e-driving license” there, provided he has a license in credit card format in force since 2013 or has a digital clone of the national electronic identity card (CNIe).

In these two cases, all he has to do is import his license into the application, either by retrieving his Restricted Information Statement (RIR) on the Télépoints teleservices site, thanks to the license number. Either by going through the “import my driving rights” tab, which allows you to connect remotely to the Road Safety Delegation database and retrieve your license there.

Three departments tested at the end of 2023

The system will be tested in the last quarter of 2023 in the departments of Rhône, Hauts-de-Seine and Eure-et-Loir, chosen for their representativeness, “with an urban and rural mix”, explains to our colleagues Anne -Gaëlle Baudouin-Clerc, director of the National Agency for Secure Documents (ANTS).

Pierre Chasseray, the general delegate of the association 40 million motorists, welcomes the approach: “It is done with a good transition, because the user keeps his original license. So there is, a priori, no reluctance to adopt. »
