The former president of Bolivia, Evo Moralesaccused the president Luis Arcehis former ally, of having lied “to the world” with a “self-coup”, after the failed military assault on the seat of government.

“I thought it was a blow, but now I’m confused: It seems like a self-coup,” Morales said in his usual program radio.

Morales was one of the first to warn from his social networks on the armed uprising last Wednesday, when troops with tanks, led by the former commander from army Juan Jose Zuniga, they besieged the presidential palace.

“I feel, I don’t know if I’m wrong, that Lucho was disrespectful, disrespectful to the truth; he deceived us, he lied, not only to the Bolivian people, but to the whole world,” added the influential indigenous leader in reference to Arce.

On Friday, Morales had already questioned the official version about the coup plans of Zuniga, But this time he completely distanced himself from the government of the man who was his Finance Minister for almost 14 years.

The two leaders are fighting for the leadership within the ruling party, with a view to the nomination for the presidential elections of 2025.

Despite being disqualified by the courts for to be a candidate, Morales intends to run in the elections, while Arce has not yet publicly said whether he will seek re-election.

With the political confrontation in the background, Morales He said he received information that is “convincing” him that what happened this week “was actually a self-coup.”

This new clash seems to ruin a rapprochement between the former allies.

According to the former president, he learned from sources in a ministry that Arce was going to leave the presidency to a “military junta” to prevent “Evo is president” again.

Morales also questioned that Arce, when dismissing a Zuniga, appoint General José Sánchez as head of the army, when he “participated in the planning of the coup or self-coup.”

“I must apologize to the international community for the alarm generated (…) It is important that a complete and independent investigation demonstrates the truth of this event,” the former president wrote in X.
