Former fashion entrepreneur Peter Nygard has been found guilty of four counts of sexual abuse by a jury in Toronto, Canada. The verdict was reached by the jury after five days of deliberations, the responsible court in Toronto announced on Sunday. In another case, the allegations against the 82-year-old were rejected. The sentence will be announced at a later date.

Over the past six weeks, five women have testified in the trial that Nygard overpowered and sexually assaulted them in his Toronto home between the late 1980s and 2005, the publicly funded Canadian broadcaster CBC reported on Sunday. The Toronto trial involved sexual assaults against four women and a 16-year-old girl.

Nygard was arrested in Winnipeg, Canada, in 2020 and charged with decades of criminal behavior with dozens of victims. According to the allegations, during his 25 years at the helm of his clothing company, he used his influence to force women to engage in sexual acts with him, with acquaintances and with each other.

The prominent fashion entrepreneur was born in Helsinki and previously lived primarily in the Bahamas. He withdrew from his company in February 2020 after the allegations became known. Shortly afterwards the company filed for bankruptcy.
