His time in Leipzig was not very successful. He only stayed in Leeds for a year. Now Jesse Marsch has found a new job. He trains the 2026 World Cup hosts.

Former Leipzig coach Jesse Marsch is the new national coach of Canada. Around 15 months after leaving Premier League club Leeds United, the 50-year-old was introduced in Toronto on Monday (local time). The American should lead the Canadians to success at the home World Cup in 2026. Canada is hosting the next World Cup alongside the USA and Mexico.

“It is an absolute honor to represent and lead the Canadian Men’s National Team as they prepare for a home World Cup. The combination of the new leadership within Canada Soccer and the potential of this dynamic player pool has inspired me and I am ready and eager to take on this great responsibility,” said Marsch about his commitment.

The first test for Marsch and his new team is the Copa America 2024. Canada will play the opening game against defending champion Argentina on June 20th. In Leipzig, Marsch was on the sidelines for only 20 games as the successor to current national coach Julian Nagelsmann.

In England he also had to leave early, even though he had led Leeds United to relegation in his first season. Marsch has been without a coaching job since February 2023.
