Ex-US elite soldier under suspicion: contract murder of a German businessman – politics abroad

by time news

A former American elite soldier and a sheriff are said to be extradited to the Netherlands – because they are said to have murdered a German businessman there. Apparently it was about unpaid bills between business partners.

Thomas Schwarz, who lived not far from the German-Dutch border, ran an agricultural business specializing in the cultivation of fruit and vegetables. In 2012 the company opened a branch in Macedonia with more than 100 employees. Involved in it was after research Macedonian journalists also include the German businessman Udo P.

In 2015 the company sold fruit and vegetables to Russia – bypassing the EU sanctions against Moscow, which were then enacted because of the annexation of Crimea. The Macedonian Ministry of the Interior investigated several company employees who are said to have exported goods worth almost 200,000 euros.

Apparently, Schwarz got into financial difficulties with his company and turned to the Swiss businessman Lukas Fecker. According to the indictment, his company “Innovation Brain” specializes in buying up companies on the verge of bankruptcy. His business partners urged Schwarz to sell his shares in the bankrupt company, but apparently to no avail.

The Dutch investigators suspect that Schwarz owed Fecker money – and when he was unable to pay, the entrepreneur switched on a hit team.

In the fall of 2019, a good month before his murder, Schwarz was approached by two people in front of his house, according to a witness. They asked for money, but Schwarz refused. The two of them gave him a farewell warning: Another person would visit him soon about the money, but she would not be so friendly.

One of these men: Jacob Mazeika, a former US Army ranger who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, among other places. After retiring from active service, Mazeika worked for organizations “against human trafficking”, explained his lawyer. He and other ex-soldiers would have carried out reconnaissance and “other services”.

Mazeika was apparently hired by a former acquaintance and co-defendant: Justin Causey, who worked as a “bodyguard” for Fecker. In October 2019, Fecker wrote to Causey that Thomas Schwarz owed him three million euros. Causey then contacted Mazeika and William Johnson, who had recently worked as a sheriff in Mississippi – all three knew each other from missions in Afghanistan.

Causey was able to find Schwarz’s place of residence in the Netherlands, but he refused to pay. Fecker is said to have urged Causey: Black is a “wimp”, has no bodyguard and is an “easy target” – and yet Causey still did not manage to carry out the order within five weeks.

Causey then turned to Mazeika and Johnson. The three men discussed how best to proceed. Black was “fat, not strong,” wrote Causey in a chat. Mazeika replied that he just wanted to know how heavy black was when he was done. The ex-army ranger suggested faking a large parcel delivery so that one could approach the house and observe it without anyone suspecting it.

Fecker’s wife finally booked flights for Mazeika and Johnson to Düsseldorf, where Causey picked them up in a rented VW Polo. In the early morning of November 26, the neighbors heard screams from Schwarz’s apartment, after which two people fled in a Polo. Johnson, who was already unpacking during his interrogation, told investigators that he had waited in the car while Causey and Mazeika went inside. They came back after 20 minutes, put their blood-smeared clothes in a bag of bleach and threw it into a forest. Causey then brought the rented Polo back – without the floor mats. He had cleaned it of the blood, but then forgot to put it back in the Polo.

When Schwarz did not appear in the office that morning, one of his employees worried and drove to the entrepreneur’s house: There the door was open and traces of blood could be seen. The Dutch police discovered Schwarz’s body next to the dining table in a pool of blood: his hands and feet were tied with cables. According to the autopsy report, Schwarz was broken several ribs and stabbed several times in his arms and legs. However, he died of a slit throat.

In the meantime, the three killers traveled on to Zurich to see Fecker, before returning to the USA on different routes and with a few detours – apparently to cover their tracks. Causey finally got in touch with his girlfriend: He made $ 230,000 in two months. “But the work … oh man.” His girlfriend replied, “That’s a lot! As long as you are ok, I’m ok too. ”

“I’m fine,” Causey replied. “It’s just a job.”

Since Washington and Amsterdam have had an extradition agreement since the 1980s, the hit men can now be transferred to the Netherlands – where their client Lukas Fecker is already waiting in prison for his trial.
