The weather on Sunday October 1 will be exceptionally hot for the period, with maximum temperatures almost 10°C higher than seasonal norms over a large part of the country, according to Météo-France forecasts.

At daybreak, temperatures will generally be between 7 and 12°C over a large north-eastern quarter of the country up to the interior of Pays de la Loire and Auvergne, and between 12 and 17°C elsewhere. . During the day, maximum temperatures will be very much higher than seasonal values, excess of 7 to 9°C over a large part of the country, or even 10 to 11°C over a large south-western quarter.

At the hottest of the day, the thermometer will display 21 to 26°C near the Channel and the northern borders of the country, 26 to 31°C over the rest of the northern half as far as Rhône-Alpes as well as the edge of the Mediterranean, 28 to 32°C elsewhere, and 32 to 34°C in the South-West.

Twentieth month in a row above normal

Because the upcoming episode follows the hottest month of September since records began in 1900. It will be the twentieth month in a row above seasonal norms, recorded in 2022 and now calculated over the period 1991- 2020. With an average of around 21.5°C, it is ahead of the months of September of 1949 and 1961. But it will exceed them by more than 1°C, with an anomaly of + 3.5 to + 3.6° vs.
