Excessive Heat Warning in Effect with Heat Index as High as 110 Degrees

The weekend is here, but unfortunately, it comes with scorching temperatures. An excessive heat warning has been issued from noon to 8 p.m., with heat index values expected to reach as high as 110 degrees. The weather rating for today is a lowly 2 out of 10, as conditions are not much different from yesterday.

The forecast for today includes partly sunny skies with scattered strong storms. High temperatures will range from 94 to 98 degrees. Tonight, there is a possibility of a shower or storm, followed by clearing skies. Low temperatures will be in the low to mid-70s. Tomorrow, expect partly to mostly sunny conditions with slightly cooler temperatures in the mid- to upper 80s.

Although we did not reach 100 degrees yesterday, the high humidity and southward winds contributed to heat index values of around 110 degrees in most areas. Unfortunately, today’s conditions will remain very uncomfortable, although not as extreme as yesterday. However, relief is on the way in the form of a cold front, which will bring temperatures back to more typical levels for this time of year by tomorrow. Cooler conditions are expected to persist into next week.

For today, clouds will be more numerous compared to yesterday, which will cap temperatures to some extent. Scattered showers and storms can be expected, especially during the afternoon and some storms might be intense. Lightning, heavy rain, and isolated damaging winds are possible. Before the storms, temperatures will reach the mid- to upper 90s in most places, with heat index values of 105 or higher. The risk of severe weather is medium-high.

As we move into tonight, the chance of a shower or storm continues into the evening, but it diminishes overnight. Humidity levels will gradually decrease, keeping low temperatures in the low and mid-70s. Overall, confidence in tonight’s weather is also medium-high.

Tomorrow, the weather will start to improve with considerably nicer conditions compared to recent days. Clouds will be more numerous in the morning, and there could be a passing shower. However, as the day progresses, the sun will come out and dew points will fall into the mid-60s. Highs will be in the mid- to upper 80s, and the heat index won’t be a significant factor. Winds will be out of the northwest at five to 10 mph.

Tomorrow night, expect partly to mostly clear skies as humidity continues to decrease. This will lead to slightly cooler temperatures with lows in the upper 60s and lower 70s.

Looking ahead, Monday promises to be a nice day with temperatures around 85 degrees and low humidity. Winds will continue to blow out of the northwest. Tuesday and the following days in August are expected to have similar conditions, with average temperatures decreasing and less humidity. Autumn is on the horizon, but it won’t be long until the next heat wave arrives.

Stay safe and stay cool during this excessive heat warning.
