Exchange offices called upon to comply with the regulations in force –

In this meeting of the Prime Minister with the heads of exchange offices, it was noted that these offices did not play their role. Instead of carrying out exchange activities, they devoted themselves to collecting currencies to send them to unknown destinations according to Moise Nkurunziza, the Prime Minister’s spokesperson.

Measures have been taken to restore order in the work of the exchange offices: The latter have been ordered to reconstitute within 3 days the share capital of 500 million francs already withdrawn for the most part, a ban on any merchant to carry out transactions in foreign currency, only the local currency is authorized except for services which are generally carried out in foreign currencies, particularly in hotels.
A currency exchange office that fails to declare a sum of 50 thousand dollars or euros per week will be removed from the list.
Prohibition of any natural or legal person from carrying out monetary transfers except commercial banks, suspension of monetary transfer establishments, deposit on the same day at the BRB of documents attesting to the constitution of the share capital for any exchange office belonging to more than a person.

Anyone who sees someone walking around with foreign currency without going to take the trip or going to the exchange office has also been asked to report it immediately to the security authorities.
