Sébastien Benoît dropped a few hints about the new season of The Masked Singers on Thursday night during the show Sucré Salé.

While the reveal of the singers is kept secret during the closed-set filming, the new host revealed to Mélanie Maynard that “people who had marked his life” would participate in the popular competition this season.

“There are reveals during the season when I’m going to be really excited. […] There are other times when I’m going to be moved,” he added, mentioning that he had shed a tear after one of the performances.

Not a very good investigator

Sébastien Benoît also mentioned to the host of Sucré Salé that his investigative skills were not great. He managed to correctly identify only two celebrities out of thirteen.

However, he believes that the production called on him to replace Guillaume Lemay-Thivierge at the last minute due to his rigor and extensive experience in the field.

“When I got the call from The Masked Singers, I was as crazy as a loon! They needed someone who would hop on board quickly. It’s a big show, it’s the most-watched show in Canada. […] They knew that with me [they would be in good hands],” he said, adding that his studious side probably worked to his advantage.

This year, Sébastien Benoît is celebrating his 30th career anniversary, as well as his 20 years at Rythme FM and 10 years hosting Coup de food.

“I can’t believe how far I’ve come. I was graduating from law school, then I had the opportunity to do radio in Drummondville. I thought: this will last as long as it lasts. Then they called me to do the show Flash, back when it was on TQS. In my mind, I was doing it for a year or two, and then I would go back to practicing,” he confessed Thursday night.

“I got my bar membership in 1995 and left the bar in 2012. That means that for all those years, 17 years, I was paying my dues. Maybe there was some insecurity on my part,” he added.

The Golden Egg Chicken will return to the air on TVA on August 25th.

The fourth season of The Masked Singers will start on September 15th at 6:30 PM on TVA.

And Coup de food will be back on Zeste in the winter of 2025.

Future Trends in Entertainment: Embracing Surprise and Emotion

Recent revelations from Sébastien Benoît about the upcoming season of Chanteurs masqués highlight an intriguing shift in entertainment dynamics. The show’s new format, which emphasizes surprise and personal connections among contestants, could signify a broader trend where emotional investment becomes key to viewer engagement.

Benoît mentioned that this season will feature participants who have left a significant impact on his life, suggesting a move toward more intimate storytelling in reality competitions. As audiences increasingly seek authenticity, shows that craft emotional narratives may lead the way in attracting dedicated viewers.

The Rise of Mystery and Audience Engagement

The secretive nature of contestant reveals during closed-set filming points to a trend of heightened mystery in entertainment formats. As seen in Benoît’s admission of his less-than-stellar investigation skills, producers might focus on maintaining suspense, akin to how escape rooms and mystery-based games have surged in popularity. This aspect not only entertains but also actively involves audiences, fostering communities that discuss clues and theories.

Longevity and Evolution of Hosts in TV Shows

Benoît’s transition from a legal career to a prominent media figure over three decades underscores the evolving role of a host in reality television. The trend of celebrating hosts with substantial experience may grow, as audiences lean towards familiar faces who represent stability and continuity amid ever-changing formats.

The Interconnection of Multiple Shows

With Benoît also sharing the stage for other programs like Coup de food and the imminent return of La Poule aux œufs d’or, the interconnectedness of television offerings is becoming more pronounced. We can anticipate a trend where networks leverage popular hosts or concepts across various shows, maximizing audience reach while creating a cohesive viewing experience.

As audiences become more discerning, the future of entertainment seems poised for profound innovation. Formats intertwining personal narratives, mystery, and seasoned hosts could shape the next wave of viewer-centric programming, setting new standards in how stories are told and experienced on screen.
