The Beach: The plot of the second season

The second season of the series transports us to Crete in 1975, a time when Greece slowly leaves behind the darkness of the junta, and democracy struggles to find its footing in the restructured Greek state. In the carved rocks of Matala, old and new characters coexist and seek their identity in an ever-changing world.

At the same time, a dark story from the period of the German Occupation resurfaces, threatening once again to haunt the present. A story that everyone knew to some extent but consciously chose to forget, and those who lived through it and survived will sooner or later seek revenge.

The return of Pavlos (Dimitris Kitsos) to his ancestral land and his acquaintance with Ifigenia (Aphrodite Liandu) will bring to light a forbidden yet passionate love. Pavlos tries to take power into his own hands, while Ifigenia tries to maintain it. One cannot succeed without the other failing.

The series “The Beach” returns for a second season full of intrigue, emotions, and surprises. A tribute to Crete, to the beauty of nature, and to the power of forbidden love.

The continuation of the beloved series promises to be even more exciting, with the old heroes facing new challenges and new characters bringing fresh air to the story.

What secrets might be hidden in the depths of Matala’s waters?

The series is inspired by the original idea of Pinelopi Kourtsi and Avgi Vagia and by the book “The Girl with the Snail” (Psychogios Publications) by Pinelopi Kourtsi.

Let’s meet the new characters of the series “The Beach”

Ifigenia Toufexis (Aphrodite Liandou): Ifigenia is a young woman quite emancipated for the era in which she lives, passionately pursuing her desires and dreams without being imprisoned by her family’s will and social conventions. She studied shipping and economics in London, and although she has not yet clarified what she wants to do in her life, she leaves open the possibility of engaging in shipping in the future. Her relationship with Pavlos (Dimitris Kitsos) begins passionately, leading both into a whirlwind of love from which there is no return.

Fani Toufexis (Alexia Kaltsiki): Fani Toufexis, coming from a middle-class family in Piraeus, saw her wealth increase significantly after marrying Christos Toufexis. Although they live separate lives, they maintain the image of unity for their children and their professional image. Fani is tough and aggressive, often making decisions for the family and their businesses. Her liberality causes discontent in Christos, while her confrontational relationship with her daughter, Ifigenia, often brings the two women into conflict.

Christos Toufexis (Kostas Kappas): Christos Toufexis has managed to expand their fortune through his shipping activities. Despite their different lives, Christos and Fani appear united for the sake of their children and their professional image. Christos relies on his employees and is more hesitant in professional and family matters. He often gives in on issues concerning their daughter, Ifigenia, trying to maintain peace in the family.

Apistos Toufexis (Christos Kragiopoulos): Apistos is the youngest son of the Toufexis family; he is the artist of the family. Sensitive and diametrically opposed to his parents, his mother is harder on him, while his father does not trust him due to his romantic choices, a fact confirmed when Apistos returns to Matala with his new partner.

Sophie (Denia Stasinopoulou): Sophie is a young French hippie who appears in the area. Having an autistic brother, she has developed the ability to manage people on the spectrum with composure and understanding. She develops an unexpected relationship with Dimitros.

Berta (Syrmo Keke): Berta is a young Belgian hippie who appears in the area. A mysterious, tough, and unwavering woman, Berta arrives in Matala with a hidden agenda that will soon threaten to disrupt the peace of the area.

Aria (Irene Gioti): Aria, a charming and calm Danish woman, appears in the village as Grandos’s new partner, whom she met during one of his trips to Copenhagen. Aria follows Grandos back to his ancestral land, ready and settled to start a new chapter in her life with him, unaware of the challenges and twists awaiting her.

Judith (Andriana Saranti): Seemingly easygoing and with a hippie ideology, Judith is, in fact, a woman who has come to the area with a hidden agenda and a specific goal of extracting information from the local residents.

Amy (Evthalia Papakosta): Amy is a strong woman with great ambition and capabilities, who works as a lawyer. Her relationship with Pavlos represents a multidimensional choice: she sees him as a financial solution for her father’s problems while simultaneously considering him a “catch” due to his financial means. She is very proactive and confronts issues in her relationship with Pavlos dynamically, sensing from the beginning the threat that Ifigenia represents.

Jacob Gerontakis (Alkis Bakogiannis): Jacob is the pampered and protected child of the Gerontakis family, polite but clearly awkward in his social skills. His parents, wanting to ensure a good financial alliance, attempt to arrange a match between him and Ifigenia. Jacob accepts their plan and awkwardly tries to win Ifigenia’s heart, even though he realizes his chances are slim.
