The Diana-Armengol-Markarian social center and the André-Malraux center are offering numerous activities, workshops, and trips for all audiences in Hauts-de-Rouen this July and August. Ask for the program!
Diana-Armengol-Markarian Social Center
Last summer, the newly formed team at the Diana-Armengol-Markarian social center surveyed the population of Hauts-de-Rouen and proposed some activities for its residents. The facility then opened its doors in September and was officially inaugurated two months later. Summer 2024 thus marks the first full program aimed at families and young people in the area.
And it is rich and varied, to say the least. Outings to Berck-sur-Mer, to the Aquajump in Bayeux, or to Trouville-sur-Mer, shows, forest walks, workshops, including the fascinating “The Stories We Tell Ourselves,” initiated by La cabale des passeurs, which allows you to create a musical tale based on your family, friendship, or travel stories.
André-Malraux Center
This summer, the André-Malraux center and the Grand’Mare neighborhood are hosting participatory artistic residencies, various workshops, and free activities open to all.
You can join a pastry workshop, a wool mandala workshop, or learn to paint with rackets, boxing gloves, or basketballs.
Finally, a collaborative artistic residency is offering workshops led by Simone and Fennihabib until Friday, August 9. Code name: “Sport is a way of life,” obviously in reference to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Embracing Community Engagement and Creative Arts in Rouen’s Summer Programs
This summer, the social centers in the Hauts-de-Rouen region are setting a vibrant tone for community engagement through a diverse range of activities and workshops. With the success of last year’s pilot programs at the Diana-Armengol-Markarian center, this year stands as a testament to the power of community-driven initiatives, paving the way for future trends in local engagement and creative expression.
Increased Focus on Family and Youth Activities
As the Diana-Armengol-Markarian center kicks off its inaugural full programming, there is a clear emphasis on creating inclusive opportunities for families and young individuals. Future trends suggest a growing recognition of the importance of robust family-oriented events, fostering connections among different generations in community settings and creating lasting memories.
Artistic Residencies and Collaborative Workshops
The André-Malraux center’s approach, with its participatory artistic residencies, embodies a shift towards collaborative creativity. This trend reflects an increasing demand for workshops that not only teach skills but also invite community members to share their artistic voice. The upcoming creative sessions, such as painting with unconventional tools or engaging in mandala art, hint at an evolving perspective that values creativity as a collective experience.
Intersection of Art and Wellness
As engagements like “Le sport est un art de vivre” highlight, the fusion of art with wellness activities will likely continue to gain traction. The incorporation of artistic elements into sports activities aligns with the holistic approach to community health, echoing a broader trend where artistic expression is seen as a pathway to emotional and physical well-being. Expect workshops that blend sports, art, and wellness to flourish, especially leading up to notable events like the Paris 2024 Olympics.
Digital Engagement as a Tool for Community Connection
The accessibility of program details through digital platforms, such as social media pages, is a sign of how technology will enhance community connection in the future. This digital engagement is vital in reaching broader audiences, particularly younger generations who navigate their social circles online. As community centers embrace technology, we may see innovative ways to engage, gather feedback, and build stronger local networks.
