Several politicians who were present at the talks between the FDP and the Union on Sunday evening reported to BILD that the FDP had clearly signaled that it would be ready for Jamaica. In the internal meeting, however, the FDP leadership made it clear that the Union must now “pull over” the Greens. And that tomorrow, Tuesday, will be the decisive day for it. Because: In the morning, the Union and the Greens come together for a first exploratory round.
From the FDP leadership there was a tough announcement to the Union on Sunday: “We have an interest in Jamaica! Do you have it too? Do you want it? Do you have the nerve? Are you closed? “
▶ ︎ FDP leader Christian Lindner had previously been able to speak intensively in the group about economic and financial policy, where it became clear that the overlaps were particularly large.
According to participants, Laschet underpins the claim to power
In the preliminary discussions at which the CDU and CSU discussed without the FDP, Armin Laschet is said to have repeatedly underpinned his claim to power in conversations on the sidelines. A leading CDU politician told BILD: “Armin Laschet is still firmly convinced that he will become Chancellor of Jamaica and that there is no alternative to him.”
Laschet said in the group without the FDP: “We still have every chance!”

Thomas Strobl, CDU interior minister in Baden-Württemberg, also spoke up in the round and recalled the situation in Baden-Württemberg: “The negotiations with us are a good example of how it can work …”

In the round, however, it was pointed out that the CDU in Baden-Württemberg had sacrificed its top candidate in the end.
Brinkhaus calls for optimism
Union parliamentary group leader Ralph Brinkhaus also urged his union colleagues to be “optimistic and self-confident” now.
